Click here for an audio version
We hope that you are having a happy Friday so far!
First it is time for our prayer.
Have a listen to this song –
What do you think today’s assembly is all about?
Give yourself a hi five if you said ‘friendship’.
Can you name some people who you are friends with?
Have you ever stopped to think about why they are your friends?
What are the reasons that they are friends?
You might be friends with people because:
☆you are interested in the same things
☆they help you when things are tricky
☆they are fun to be around
☆they say nice things to us or are kind to us
☆they may understand you
☆or they might be someone that you can trust or rely on.
Having friends is important –
It helps us to feel liked;
It helps us to feel less lonely;
It helps us to have fun.
Feeling liked, not lonely and having fun makes us feel good. It makes our friends feel good too.
Having friends can make us happier and that is a good thing.
Do you think that you are a good friend?
What do you do that makes you a good friend?
Watch this video about what makes a good friend.
Are we always friendly to our friends?
Sometimes friends fall out and disagree. We sometimes fall out and disagree with our family too.
This can make us feel upset or angry and sometimes we say or do unkind things to our friends and they may be unkind to us too.
When this happens it is important that we put this right to help us to feel happy again. You might need an adult to help you to do this.
You put things right by calmly trying to understand why your friend is cross and also explain to them what made you feel cross. Have a look at this video. What did they do to stay friends?
Saying that you are sorry and that you want to be friends again is a good way to make things better.
If you say sorry, shake hands, or if it is appropriate – give them a hug then this will help you to stay friends.
Always talk to an adult or someone you trust to help you work out problems.
Have you seen your friends lately? Most of us haven’t.
The coronavirus pandemic has made it tricky to see our friends. When we dont see or talk to our friends we can feel lonely and sad. It is not nice to feel lonely or sad.
To help us feel less sad, our challenge this week is to call or message a friend to say hi!
Remember, friends say kind things to each other and it is important to be kind when we call or message our friends.
Who are you going to call?
Older students
Some of our older students may use social media.
How can we be kind to our friends and others on social media?
Messaging people means that they can not see your body language so the words, emojis and pictures that you use are important to choose wisely.
Before you message or type: stop and think. How would you feel if you got that message? Ok? Or not ok?
If you disagree or fall out: stop and wait until you feel calmer before sending or posting a message that you might regret later.
If you are worried about something someone has said or sent you on social media it is important to ask someone you trust to help you understand. You can also report posts and messages that are against the law or are offensive.
Our sign of the week is kindness
Let’s see one of our friends doing our wish.
And now for a fantastic song by one of our friends who has the most amazing voice – Richie!
And a song about friends that you can sing and sign to.
Have a fantastic week of fun and friendship!
Stay safe Cleaswell Hill School.
