School finishes at 2.10pm on Fridays for both sites.
This amounts to 30 hours and 25 minutes per week.
Certificates are presented to celebrate achievement, where appropriate, and we include parents/carers wherever possible to enjoy a shared celebration of successes and cultural awareness. The structure of assemblies vary depending upon the pathway, with some assemblies allowing for more freeflow and sensory based activities and others encouraging a more formal style of celebration.
Cleaswell Hill School is committed to establishing, maintaining and developing links with communities local to our pupil population. These links give our pupils opportunities to experience many aspects of life outside school within their own ‘local’ context and provide valuable preparation for adulthood.
Links include: The Tim Lamb Centre, Seb and Olivia’s Den, Toby Henderson Trust, Community Police, Rock and Roam, Northumberland College, Tyne Coast College, Newcastle College, Azure Enterprises, Northumberland Skills, Buzz Learning. We also have a long standing relationship with Platform 1 where pupils are able to develop their skills in Creative Arts and have the opportunity to perform and showcase their skills to families and those that work with the school on a regular basis.
The hydrotherapy pool is hired out Tuesday to Friday each week from 4pm until 7pm. This is used by families, other schools and community groups from Northumberland but also by groups from other local authorities.
Pupils continue to take part in various events throughout the year and lots of fundraising opportunities are planned within the school calendar promoting the work of Cleaswell and the Cleaswell Hill Foundation charity. We are very fortunate to have been named Co-op’s Charity of the Year for the 3rd year in a row.
We actively support charitable events and organisations including; Mind Mental health, Children in Need, Royal British Legion, local food banks and Comic Relief.
Cleaswell Hill School is used as a training placement by a wide variety of students. These include students in; Teaching, PE & Sports Science, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy from Newcastle, Northumbria and Sunderland Universities, Local Colleges of FE and schools.
We are a partner in the Early Years Stronger Practice Hub (one of two in the North) which shares and provided advice and guidance on effective practice and evidence based approaches for early years’ practitioners.
We are also proud to be a partner of the Autism Education Trust (AET) and we work with a number of families and professionals in a range of settings to enhance skills in autism awareness and acceptance. As part of our commitment to the local and regional community, we also provide training opportunities for educational settings across the County to enhance their knowledge with a range of SEND focussed training packages.
Please note, dates for the next academic year are subject to additional staff training days.
